When's the next BlogFest?

Wednesday, 12 April 2006 03:45 PM

Dear Pittsburgh-area bloggers:

We're trying to schedule the next BlogFest. We thought we'd have everything in place by now, but it has been devilishly difficult to plan things right now at our normal location, Finnegan's Wake.

I'm told this is because it's baseball season. Apparently people like to go to Finnegan's Wake before, during, and after baseball games, and thus the staff are unable to answer the phone. Or maybe they're all training for positions on the team. Either way, we're having trouble reaching them to reserve space.

So, we're still working on it. Look for a real announcement soon. The event itself will most likely be on a Friday evening in May when the Pirates are playing away.

Sleep while you can, sweetieThe tiny person pictured here is my newly minted niece Rachel. She's a mere few hours old so I haven't had much chance to influence her little life. So far she seems to be mostly sleeping, perhaps to store up energy for all the fun I plan to throw at her.

She's a bit too small for the plucked chicken Viking hat that has been made especially for her. In fact, she could almost fit not just her head but her whole body into it now. But soon she will wear it proudly, or if not proudly than with great bewilderment, and I look forward to that with pride.

Blast off!

I'll have a Moon Shot, pleaseI would like to live in The Encounter Restaurant and Bar at LAX. What an amazing restaurant and bar! It's like the Jetsons opened a lounge. In fact, apparently the Jetsons cartoon was influenced by the building's exterior. Ace Jackalope has an amazing photo journal and writeup.

I've seen it many times from the outside, while waiting for a ride, but I've never gone in. I'm tempted to visit L.A. just to see it in person.

The lone dark spot on this lovely venue is the hours: the kitchen closes at 9:30, the bar at 10. Such a crime.
